What is a channel?

Understanding channels

At Lane, there are multiple types of Channels.

A channel is a collection of Content that has been created and published by Admins. End-users can subscribe to Channels to see content published to their workplace experience platform.

🧠 Channels are the heart of the workplace experience platform.

Channel Hierarchy

In order for channels to function, there is a hierarchy that's put in place during the initial creation of your workplace experience platform.

Your onboarding manager will build your channel structure during Discovery.

Parent Channel

  • Every channel - building, retail, company - on the Lane platform is housed under a Parent Channel
  • Admins can target information from the Parent Channel to some or all of the building channels nested under it.

A parent channel is at the top of the channel hierarchy. This is not accessed by all subscribers. It can be named after the company.

ie :

Acme Corp

Channel

  • A channel exists under a parent channel.  Every building in a client’s portfolio has its own channel within the platform.
  • Each building channel has its unique settings & configurations, sub-channels, tenants - companies, retail, organizations -  subscribers, and users.

Once the parent channel is created, building or property channels can be nested in the parent channel. An easy naming convention is to add the location to the name.

ie :

Acme - Toronto

Acme - New York

Sub Channel

  • Each building or property can have sub-channels nested within its building channel.
  • Subchannels are used to identify specific groups of subscribers or users to share information, notices or content.

For example: A sub-channel can be created for a group of subscribers who are part of the security team.

This sub-channel within the building would contain information regarding the front desk process, entering facilities, or parking-specific posts and notice. This content can be shared without broadcasting that information directly to every subscriber in the building or property channel.

ie :

Acme - Toronto : Security

Acme - New York: Concierge
